SATURN'S RETURN - As Good As It Gets - Benedict

Chicago, Illinois

Time: Contemporary

Situation: Benedict, one of a gay couple, imagines what he would say at his son's funeral if he could. Still not ready to forgive those who bullied his son, he shares the power of his son’s love and the depth of loss he feels.

Subject Matter: Grief, Rage, Hate, Love, Gratitude, Complexity of Loss, Fatherhood, Adoption

Note from Playwright: Benedict is about to address the gathered family and friends at his son's funeral. In the monologue he imagines what he would like to say but can't. This should give the actor the freedom to express rage when social norms might call for a more comforting tone.
