MONOLOGUE DESCRIPTION

Time: Contemporary

Situation: Aston is confronted by Lucky, a former marine, about the decision to leave their family's car repair shop and chase her dreams of attending college at UCLA. Aston has a bit of experience about letting life get in the way of her dreams and tries to convince Lucky to not give up on hers.

Subject Matter: Sisterhood, Home, Family, Opportunity, Dreams, Courage

Note from Playwright: I began writing Rev with the simple goal to show what happens when women support other women. I was especially drawn to middle class women mostly because the middle class is who I am. In addition, the impending threat of the disappearance of the middle class urges the American Theatre to recognize its existence. My play celebrates the tradition of the fighting middle-class wanting more for its future generations. The play demonstrates the fortitude, strength, and vulnerability of the American woman and the dream all Americans have for future generations to do better than the last. This play also explores how women contribute to the legacy of their families, break tradition, and help carve the landscape of America’s hometowns and their own family history.
