OLD MAN GUNS - Toy Box - Mike

MONOLOGUE DESCRIPTION

Time: Present

Situation: Toy Box is an excerpt from a longer darkly comic story of a man who abandoned his wife and kid. Not merely abandoned them, but faked his death in a burning building in order to abandon them! When we meet him, he's racked with guilt and regret, everything in his life since that fateful moment has been an unrelenting mess. But by the end of the play, it’s clear that things aren’t quite what they seem.

Subject Matter: Grief, Regret, Humor, Parenting, Love, Relationships, IKEA

Note from Playwright: This character immediately spoke to me as someone I could empathize with, and even root for a little, despite all the horrible things that happen. Once his voice solidified in my head, I let him take the wheel and this play is the result.
