Fanny has spent her whole life trying to please others. Forty years earlier, in her native Mexico, after being crowned Miss Chihuahua, she auditioned for an important role in an Elvis Presley movie, but was rejected for the “darkness” of her beauty. Fast forward to the present, Fanny is virtually penniless and living in a trailer home because of her third husband’s shopping addiction. Fanny’s stepdaughter, Melanie, an investment banker living beyond her means in New York, tracks Fanny down and tries to enlist her financial assistance in a suspect, “get-rich-quick scheme.” Fanny almost sacrifices what little saving she has left to help, but thanks to a pair of blue suede shoes and the intervention of “The King” himself, neither Fanny nor Melanie have to resort to desperate measures in order to make their dreams of independence come true.
Situation: As a result of her dead husband’s secret QVC shopping addiction, Fanny has had to sell her large house and move into a double-wide trailer in the middle of the Mohawk Valley. Fanny’s stepdaughter, Melanie, an investment banker living beyond her means in New York, tracks Fanny down and tries to enlist her financial assistance in a suspect, “get-rich-quick scheme.”
