MATING DANCE OF THE WEREWOLF - Abby

Author Mark Stein
Washington, DC

PLAY DESCRIPTION

A darkly comic investigation of a gruesome murder and of the reality of imagination. A police officer (Ken) becomes caught up in a passionate romance with Abby, who is new to town. But her quest for authenticity (asking what would happen if we let our insides out) unleashes feelings in Ken that he struggles to understand. This, in turn, impacts his relationships with his two closest friends, Allen and Pam--particularly when Abby claims to be a werewolf.

MONOLOGUE DESCRIPTION

Time: Present

Situation: Abby, reluctant to allow herself to fall in love, takes an enormous risk in this scene by sharing with Ken that which she most fears to share: her secretly being a werewolf.

Subject Matter: Mothers, Fathers, Puberty, Womanhood, Feminism, Love, Libido, Werewolves, Monsters, Myths, Horror

Note from Playwright: This is a play about a werewolf -- and yet I would argue that it is a realistic play, in that it is a depiction of our inner realities.
