FAR NORTH Short Play

Goshen, Connecticut

PLAY DESCRIPTION

At a cocktail party, urbane Phyllis speaks into a cell phone camera as she gives advice to a newborn on living a civilized life. But, as the party progresses, her proper veneer begins to crack, revealing a secret long ago buried in the Far North.

Time: Contemporary

Subject Matter: Miscarriage, Grief, Domestic Violence, Alcoholism, Family, Patriarchy, Confession

Note from the Playwright: I wrote this play inspired by several true stories. Though Phyllis may seem at first to have led her life in denial, given her time and place she has survived the only way she's known how. This is probably the first time she has ever talked about these experiences.
