Carla's Lament - Carla

New York, New York

MONOLOGUE DESCRIPTION

Time: Contemporary

Situation: Carla, a recently divorced woman of New York Italian heritage seems to be angry at everyone from her teenage son to her ex-husband and is looking to the audience for agreement and consolation.

Subject Matter: Divorce, Single Parenting, Custody Requirements, Jealousy, Anger, Frustration

Note from Playwright: This monologue is based on a conversation I overheard of a recently divorced woman complaining about her son's lack of personal strength and having to comply with her ex-husband's custody requirements. The monologue can be done in a New York, Italian woman's accent, such as "stupid" can be pronounced "stoop-pid."
