Brandy N. Carie
Brandy N. Carie is a playwright and producer currently pursuing an MFA in Dramatic Writing at Carnegie Mellon University, where she is the recipient of the Jean & Samuel Elgart ACS Legacy Fellowship. She was a 2017 Edward Albee Foundation Fellow, a 2018 National Winter Playwright’s Retreat resident, and a 2018 Princess Grace Award finalist. Carie is a founding member of Houston’s Collective 48, with whom she co-wrote and -directed the multimedia play SPITSHOW, and directed and produced the house party/performance TWO! SHORT! PLAYS!. Collective 48 also produced Houston’s outpost of the Future is Female Festival in collaboration with Mildred’s Umbrella Theatre. Carie’s plays have been produced at the Chicago Fringe Festival, Boiling Point Players, Blunt Objects Theatre, developed by Northlight Theatre, Mildred’s Umbrella, and the Mid-America Theater Conference, and published by Smith and Kraus.
She is currently developing The Bunker Cycle, a seven-play series about American survivalism and doomsday preppers.
NOTE FROM PLAYWRIGHT
I think there are an infinite number of stories about women that I haven't heard yet, so that is mainly the kind of story I like to tell. I am interested in women who are not that nice. I think everyone is just trying their best.
