Avery Kester

BIOGRAPHY

Avery Kester is a Portland area Playwright/Performer specializing in works around LGBTQ issues, mental health, and intimate violence. Their work is rooted in realism, and some of it follows the genre of Verbatim Theatre, being based on true accounts and interviews.

Avery received their BA in Applied Theatre from Pacific University in 2018 and is an MFA Student at the University of Nebraska Omaha. Avery has been published in literary magazines such as The Bellwether Review, HCE Review, Magnolia and Vine, and 30 North, for memoir work and poetry in recent years. Avery’s work has had local readings and productions of their full-length piece PRESSURE, and their one-act LOCK-IN.

NOTE FROM PLAYWRIGHT

I strive to write about mental health, LGBT issues, and intimate violence because those stories are often silenced and they deserve to be heard.
